Personalised Wall Plaquette

Hello again everyone,

I have another one of my decoupaged name plaquettes completed and I wanted to show it to you.

Like the previous one, this is also floral themed and depicts a fairy on the right hand side.  It is découpaged with some beautiful rice paper from the Stamperia collection and on this one I have also included some texture by adding some heavy body paste here and there.

The butterflies were made using cardstock to back some ricepaper butterflies that I fussy cut from a sheet and then glued to the plaquette giving it a 3D dimension.

For the letters, I used acrylic paint to fill in a pencil outline, a bit tricky but a super fine brush did the trick.  Finally a pink velvet ribbon was added for hanging.

Mother's Day

Hi Folks,

These last few weeks it's all been about Mother's Day which falls on 11th March in Ireland and UK.  I've been busy making some lovely Mother's Day gifts and cards.

Today though, I'm going to talk to you about the cards.  Everyone loves a card - especially one that is hand crafted by a loved one.  It's especially nice to know that someone has gone to the trouble of making something just for YOU.

Here are a couple of my creations which are not marked 'Mother's Day' so can be used for a birthday or other special occasion.  All you need is some cardstock and embellishments, some glue, varnish, and perhaps a stamp.

You can fold an A4 sized cardstock in two to make a generous sized card or if you prefer,  you can cut the card to size if you have a paper trimmer.  Alternatively, you can buy plain white cards with envelopes ready for decorating.  You should get these items in your local craft store.

On this occasion, I used the ready made cards as that's what I had to hand at the time.  So now you just have to stick on your embellishments using your imagination to create a nice layout.  For mine I used a mix of embellishments including fabric, lace, floral paper, handwriting design paper, ribbon, a wooden frame, paper flowers, pearl beads.  If you have a stamp and ink you can add a greeting to your card or you can just write a few meaningful lines.

Découpaged Box Shelf / Drawer Tidy

Last year I found these little boxes in my local Euro store and bought two of them.  I put them aside and forgot all about them until I was doing a clean-up of my craft studio recently and came across them again. As you can see from the pictures below, they originally had some black printed motifs on the inside sections of the box.
 

I decided it was time to pretty them up so I painted one of them taupe using some chalk paint.  It took a few coats to cover the black printed motifs but eventually they disappeared.  I used two different types of napkins and some floral paper to découpage the interior sections of the box, a different pattern for each section.  I sealed it with a couple of coats of sealant and it is now ready to hang on a wall as mini shelves or on a desk or kitchen counter top as a tidy, or even a jewellery box. I think this one looks real cute.  I've still got the second one to do so don't forget to drop by to have a look real soon.

Vintage Roses Photo Hanging Plaquette

My new design Vintage Roses Photo Hanging Plaquette went down a treat with it's new owner and resulted in an abundance of requests for the same style so I will be a busy bee for the next while making sure I get all my orders completed in time while at the same time keeping up with the furniture upstyling taking place in my small studio!!  I can barely fit myself in at the moment due to the amount of work going on - I need to think about a bigger space soon!

Here's some pics of the Vintage Roses Plaquette which can be used for hanging a favourite photo using the mini peg which is attached to the ribbon within the frame.  This time, I went for a vertical design and included the person's name inside the frame as an added touch.  She loved it and I am happy to say there will be more similar to this in the near future.  Thanks for dropping by, don't forget to call again soon to see what's happening at Funky-Junk. Bedside Lockers

I'm on a roll now having completed the Chest of Drawers which I posted about earlier this month and I am ready to get stuck into these two pine bedside lockers.  The are visually dated but are good quality and in great condition so why let them go to waste when they can be totally transformed?

I recently had my house painted and decided to re-do my bedroom so everything is getting a makeover and I'll be posting on the blog and on my Facebook page as I go along - it's a slow process in between trying to get everyone else's pieces finished, a full-time day job, a house to keep and child to look after - so bear with me!!  I do eventually get there and love the challenge so do drop back to have a look!

 

Chest of Drawers Revamp - The Result

I'm delighted to say that my chest of drawers is complete and I am very happy with the result.  It looks great in my room and has received the thumbs up from friends and family that have seen it.

The final finishing of this little piece really made the difference and gave it an appropriately aged vintage look.  Here are some pics of how it looks now and how it used to look - a big change for the better:

Chest of Drawers Makeover - Découpage

My chest of drawers revamp is going well and since my last post I have distressed the drawer edges which has made a difference but I haven't been entirely happy with the drawer pulls. I went shopping to check out if there was anything nice out there that would suit the style but came upon nothing.  I checked online and wasn't happy with anything there either so I decided to try a little découpage on the originals to see if I could make them look a bit more unusual - time to take out my box of paper scraps and get cutting.  This is what I came up with...

Vase Découpage

In my last post I talked about preparing to découpage the orange vase that I had revamped in January. Today I've progressed well with it although choosing the best cut-outs for the vase was not as easy as you would think.  I was inclined at first to go for colours of complete contrast to it but after trying them out I changed my mind and ended up going with colours that blended in with the orange.

First, I used blue-tack to place the cut-outs where I wanted them on the vase and when I was happy with the arrangement I marked the area with pencil.  Then I just glued them on, sponged them down to take off the excess glue and waited for them to dry.  When they were fully dry I applied my first coat of varnish and left it overnight.  I sanded it lightly with very fine sandpaper the following day before applying the second coat of varnish.

Most découpage projects will take about 10 coats of varnish before the paper becomes 'level' with the object and no longer looks like paper stuck to it.  Patience is required waiting for each coat of varnish to dry but the end result is worth it.  I hope you enjoyed reading about my vase découpage project, please let me know what you think by leaving a comment below.

Vase Découpage

At the start of January this year I revamped this vase by painting it orange to suit my new bathroom decor and I was quite happy with it until I came across my old box of découpage scraps.  The vase is a bit plain so I'm thinking why not découpage it?  It would make it a lot more interesting and it would be a nicer focal point.

I think some flowers and cherubs or angels could look good.
