Furniture Collection

It came to my notice that quite a collection of furniture had gradually been building up in the shed/attic/all over the house, stuff that I had bought with the intention of painting that I never got around to, so this evening I made a decision to go through it determined to find time in the coming days to get started on doing some work on at least one piece.  I made my way to the shed as it needed tidying anyway and buried under a pile of paint and tools, there was a couple of coffee tables that I had picked up some time ago. I pulled out one of them and dragged it into the house - this girl means business!

It's a really unattractive table so it's going to need a lot of TLC but it is the ideal candidate for a TOTAL revamp and brand new look. This is the kind of table that may still be ugly after the makeover but I'm going to do my best to get it looking good.  I'll just have to do something fancy with that undershelf.... but first it needs a good cleaning and I'll start with some sugar soap and I'll give it a light sanding so that the paint will have something to grip on to.   As I will only be working on it evenings after work and on weekends, you'll have to bear with me as it's probably going to take a while.  For starters here are some pics of it as it stands.  Not a pretty picture. Wish me good luck and don't forget to stay tuned here on www.funkyjunkjunkie.blogspot.ie to see the finished job.

Bedside Lockers

I'm on a roll now having completed the Chest of Drawers which I posted about earlier this month and I am ready to get stuck into these two pine bedside lockers.  The are visually dated but are good quality and in great condition so why let them go to waste when they can be totally transformed?

I recently had my house painted and decided to re-do my bedroom so everything is getting a makeover and I'll be posting on the blog and on my Facebook page as I go along - it's a slow process in between trying to get everyone else's pieces finished, a full-time day job, a house to keep and child to look after - so bear with me!!  I do eventually get there and love the challenge so do drop back to have a look!

Chest of Drawers Revamp - The Result

I'm delighted to say that my chest of drawers is complete and I am very happy with the result.  It looks great in my room and has received the thumbs up from friends and family that have seen it.

The final finishing of this little piece really made the difference and gave it an appropriately aged vintage look.  Here are some pics of how it looks now and how it used to look - a big change for the better:

I hope you enjoyed following my progress with this piece of furniture, drop back soon to see what I have in store for two bedside lockers that have seen better days.  Let me know what you think of my work on Funky Junk Facebook or at the bottom of this post.

Stool Story

Back to my stool revamp again and here's some before, during and after pics.  I'm very happy with the end result (above), it's got a nice soft sheen from all the polishing and it's finally ready for the upholstery work which I can't wait to start - I just have to wait until the neighbours are out (noisy job) and decide on fabric (more on that later...). Click on the picture below to enlarge and see the before during and after stages.  Comments welcome - I'd love to hear what you think.

Display Cabinet

A few years ago when I revamped my display cabinet by painting and distressing it, I had planned on lining the interior with some nice fabric or paper but never got around to it.

As I needed a little break away from my stool restore job, I set about digging up the wallpaper I had bought for the job.  I had chosen a vintage rose wallpaper as I love all things 'old' and this style suits my other home decor.

The job proved to be quite tricky as the wood in the cabinet is rough and uneven so it was difficult to stick the paper to evenly.

The original cabinet was finished in a dark stain and when I revamped it I left the interior unpainted.  Now after having lined it, I will probably paint the interior to brighten it up a little.

This is how it looks:

Wine Box

This is an old wine box that was crying out for some fixing up and had been moved from room to room but just didn't look good anywhere.  A small repair needed in the top left where there was a piece of the trim missing.  Time for a change......

Before

Firstly, I removed the hardware and repaired the damage using wood filler.  After I prepped it I chose a beige as the main colour but first I painted it a dusty pink which gives a nice subtle finish.  I'm really happy with this one and it now has a new home on my sideboard!
