Personalised Wall Plaquette

Hello again everyone,

I have another one of my decoupaged name plaquettes completed and I wanted to show it to you.

Like the previous one, this is also floral themed and depicts a fairy on the right hand side.  It is découpaged with some beautiful rice paper from the Stamperia collection and on this one I have also included some texture by adding some heavy body paste here and there.

The butterflies were made using cardstock to back some ricepaper butterflies that I fussy cut from a sheet and then glued to the plaquette giving it a 3D dimension.

For the letters, I used acrylic paint to fill in a pencil outline, a bit tricky but a super fine brush did the trick.  Finally a pink velvet ribbon was added for hanging.

Personalised Plaquettes

Hi Folks,
Today I want to share my latest creation with you.  These are personalised plaquettes made using beautiful rice paper and napkins which are découpaged onto wood.  The names are done by painting on to pencil-outlined lettering using acrylic paint.  They are finished off with a matte varnish to protect the découpaged papers and some hanging ribbon added.

Cardboard Box to Jewellery Box Transformation

Hi Folks, it's Gwen here from Funky-Junk, I hope you're all feeling good now that Summer is finally here and that you're ready for some more découpage.  Back in October, some of you will remember I posted about how to make a pretty jewellery box from old bracelet and watch boxes. You can see the post here .  Today, I am going to show you how to make another beautiful travel sized jewellery box from a plain cardboard one using some chalk paint and a napkin. These little boxes work great as travel jewellery boxes for when you're going on holidays.  Below is the most recent addition to my collection and if you scroll down you will also see the original box before decoration:

To do this you will need the following items:

A box
Découpage paper/napkin
Découpage glue
Découpage varnish
Chalk Paint
Wax Paper
An iron

First, paint the box in a colour of your choice using chalk paint (2 coats).  When dry, paint on a layer of découpage glue and let dry.

Place your découpage paper in the position that you want it on the box and cover with wax paper.  Iron over the wax paper with no steam setting on low heat.  Remove the wax paper.

Give the box two coats of découpage glue letting each coat dry before the next is applied.  When fully dry, give it a coat of varnish (or two).  That's it!  Now you have a cute little travel jewellery box.  As you can see from my photos, I choose to paint the interior of my box in a different colour to give contrast, you can paint yours in a colour of your choice or you can découpage the base in a paper that matches the exterior of the box.

Découpaged Tray

Découpage never fails to please and this time the subject matter was an inexpensive wooden tray which I had been looking out for for some time.  I hit pay dirt in a city centre Euro store for the bargain sum of €6,99 which just made  this project all the sweeter.

I used napkins for this découpage job - 4 to be exact.  First, painted the tray with a couple of coats of cream coloured chalk paint.  I then stuck on the napkins using some découpage glue and matching up the design where necessary.  Care is needed when matching the design up, it's a bit like wall papering on a smaller scale.  I also stuck some cut out flowers from the napkin to the outside edges of the tray to complete the look. Once dry, I added a coat of découpage glue and when the glue was dry, I sanded it lightly with a fine sandpaper to smooth out any wrinkles before applying a second coat of glue. When the this coat was dry, I finished up with two coats of gloss varnish to protect the surface, as this tray will be used regularly. You may prefer to use a matt finish but for this particular project I thought the gloss would look better.

As this tray is so pretty, I've decided to hang it in my kitchen rather than hiding it in a cabinet - it will also be more accessible for regular use and doubles up as wall decor! See photos below.  Click on photos to make bigger.

Great Idea to Pretty Up an Untidy Desk

Its that time of year again - the kids are going back to school and it feels like the house needs an end-of-Summer clean up.  The first place that struck me as being a total mess was my desk!  Unnecessary rubbish had gathered there and all of my pens, brushes and tools of the trade were stuck into ugly plastic containers.  This was bugging me most so I tackled it first.

There's nothing like a little découpage!  I found some pretty paper in my collection - floral of course, and got to work.  I measured out strips of different paper to fit around each of the plastic containers and stuck it on with some pva.  When dry, I added some gloss varnish to protect them.  That's it and what a difference it made!  So simple and so much prettier than before.  Scroll down to see the before and after pics and leave a comment to let me know what you think.

Découpaged Box Shelf / Drawer Tidy

Last year I found these little boxes in my local Euro store and bought two of them.  I put them aside and forgot all about them until I was doing a clean-up of my craft studio recently and came across them again. As you can see from the pictures below, they originally had some black printed motifs on the inside sections of the box.
 

I decided it was time to pretty them up so I painted one of them taupe using some chalk paint.  It took a few coats to cover the black printed motifs but eventually they disappeared.  I used two different types of napkins and some floral paper to découpage the interior sections of the box, a different pattern for each section.  I sealed it with a couple of coats of sealant and it is now ready to hang on a wall as mini shelves or on a desk or kitchen counter top as a tidy, or even a jewellery box. I think this one looks real cute.  I've still got the second one to do so don't forget to drop by to have a look real soon.

Turquoise Painted and Découpaged Coffee Table

Do you remember my post at the end of September when I showed you the old table that I had pulled from my shed.  You can click here for a few reminder photos Coffee Table .  Well, I finally got it finished and it's looking great.  I think it would be especially good in a conservatory or a sun room or great in a shabby chic style home.  I used a pale turquoise colour chalk paint after I had primed it (two coats).  It probably didn't need the primer but I wanted to make sure that the paint stuck.  I had also given it a wash down with some sugar soap and a light sanding as I mentioned in my earlier post. I chose this particular colour because of the napkins that I wanted to use for the découpage.  It's funny how you make decisions - all because of a napkin!! But, I had bought some lovely ones with the same colour turquoise background and lots of red flowers that I was just crazy about and had to use.

I've used these same napkins for one of my latest plaquettes, it's so pretty.....you can see it here.  I'll have to stop now though, I can't keep using them for every job!!  After the table was painted, découpaged and aged a little, I gave it two coats of matt varnish.  Normally I wouldn't do this, I would just use wax but as it's a coffee table it needed to be well sealed.  I then clear waxed and dark waxed it to darken it up a bit.  In the first pic below I have photographed it with a white sheet of paper on top.  This is because a few people thought that it looked white in the photos so this might help to show up the colour more.  Here she is.................and not half as ugly.  Scroll to the end to see the before pics.

Vintage Floral Plaquette - Christmas Collection

Furniture Collection

It came to my notice that quite a collection of furniture had gradually been building up in the shed/attic/all over the house, stuff that I had bought with the intention of painting that I never got around to, so this evening I made a decision to go through it determined to find time in the coming days to get started on doing some work on at least one piece.  I made my way to the shed as it needed tidying anyway and buried under a pile of paint and tools, there was a couple of coffee tables that I had picked up some time ago. I pulled out one of them and dragged it into the house - this girl means business!

It's a really unattractive table so it's going to need a lot of TLC but it is the ideal candidate for a TOTAL revamp and brand new look. This is the kind of table that may still be ugly after the makeover but I'm going to do my best to get it looking good.  I'll just have to do something fancy with that undershelf.... but first it needs a good cleaning and I'll start with some sugar soap and I'll give it a light sanding so that the paint will have something to grip on to.   As I will only be working on it evenings after work and on weekends, you'll have to bear with me as it's probably going to take a while.  For starters here are some pics of it as it stands.  Not a pretty picture. Time for Tea, Snowflakes & Floral Plaquettes

It's been a while since I posted my first lot of vintage style plaquettes which I am pleased to say, sold out quite quickly.  I have been busy preparing the next batch and have recently completed the three below, one of which was a commission and is now with it's new owner.  The two plaquettes with the frames can be used for clipping on a photo of your choice using the mini-pegs attached and seen in the pics below:

I have been a busy bee for the last few weeks designing my lovely new vintage style Plaquettes. These beauties are mini wall plaques with a difference.  They are all handmade, unique and unusual and there are no two identical.  They are made using beautiful colours and designs combining découpage and various artistic techniques. They would make an impact in any room and would be great gifts for any occasion (don't forget mother's day on 15th March!).  The framed ones include a peg which allows the attachment of a photo of your choice if you wish but they are equally as nice just as they are.  There is no end to the colour and design choices that are possible in this range. Measurements approx. 20cm x 30cm in most cases.
