Découpaged Photo Hanging Frame

Photos are an important part of most peoples lives, they act like memories so that we don't forget what was.  Our children at a younger age, a deceased family member or just happy occasions that make us smile so its an added bonus when you come across a pretty way to display them.

I love the idea of this découpaged and painted photo frame with string and pegs to hang your favourite pics.

You can choose any pattern, design or colour that you like and the beauty of this one is you can very easily change photos from one day to the next.  Of course it's so pretty as it is that you wouldn't have to hang any photos on it and could just use it for little notes to yourself (or others); reminders, shopping lists, or quotes for positive thinking and wellbeing - the list is endless!

Mother's Day Decorated Heart

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I am posting the last of my Mother's Day projects for this year which I hope you will find useful in helping you create something special for your own Mum. Again, I used an mdf heart which I painted pink.

This time I transferred on some typography using the pencil transfer method that I wrote about in my last blog post.  I went over this with a black sharpie (the laundry marker kind) to make it stand out.  I then découpaged on some pink roses, aged it with some dark wax, sealed with some clear wax and finally added some cream ribbon for hanging.  This project was finished in one evening and was easy to do.  Why not try making one of your own? Christmas Tree Decorations

Well, it's been a while since I posted - it's been so crazy trying to get everything sorted for Christmas and I have been  using every spare minute in between to finish a large plaquette which was commissioned for a wedding.  I finally handed it over today to to the happy couple so I will have lots of time free to blog over the Christmas and I will be off work for 10 whole days for the holiday season yay!  I will be posting about this lovely plaquette after the new year so keep in touch if you would like to see it.

My last post presented some Christmas decorations that I made and I was so happy with them on my tree that I decided to make a few more.  They are simple and fun to make, I added some more sparkle to these ones but it's difficult to see in the photos.  Hope you like them.  Double click to make the picture bigger.

Birds on a Branch Vintage Style Plaquette

I love bird designs especially vintage style bird designs so I couldn't resist making this lovely plaquette which I am so tempted to keep for myself.  The pink base is a mix of red, white and cream paint that I mixed up myself to create this great colour.  Of course, I didn't write down the amounts so it will be a challenge trying to make the same colour again!  I think the pink is a great match and at the same time, contrast to the blue and I will definitely reuse this design - maybe next time I will try it with an orange background.  I hope you enjoyed my post, I'd love to hear what you think or answer any questions, so don't forget to comment below or on my Facebook page.

Multi Frame Plaquette

This is one of my larger plaquettes for hanging several different sized photos.  I painted this one in pale grey with a darker grey crackle finished edge as usual using my own mix chalk paint.  Pastel hearts and sparkle finish completed the look along with some varying shaped frames.  It is making a long journey at the end of the week, all the way from Dublin to it's new home in Arizona.

It's been a while since I posted my first lot of vintage style plaquettes which I am pleased to say, sold out quite quickly.  I have been busy preparing the next batch and have recently completed the three below, one of which was a commission and is now with it's new owner.  The two plaquettes with the frames can be used for clipping on a photo of your choice using the mini-pegs attached and seen in the pics below:

Plaquettes

I have been a busy bee for the last few weeks designing my lovely new vintage style Plaquettes. These beauties are mini wall plaques with a difference.  They are all handmade, unique and unusual and there are no two identical.  They are made using beautiful colours and designs combining découpage and various artistic techniques. They would make an impact in any room and would be great gifts for any occasion (don't forget mother's day on 15th March!).  The framed ones include a peg which allows the attachment of a photo of your choice if you wish but they are equally as nice just as they are.  There is no end to the colour and design choices that are possible in this range. Measurements approx. 20cm x 30cm in most cases.

Festive Swing Tags

I love swing tags - don't ask me why but I just have a liking for them.  You may remember my post last month on the Découpaged Swing Tags that I decorated.  Today though I am going to show you my idea for some smaller sized Christmas themed swing tags which are very easy to do and are a novel way to present your Christmas gifts.

You will need some small swing tags, glue, a small short bristle paint brush, a pencil, and some glitter in a few different colours.

Draw a picture or design on your swing tag, nothing too complicated, the more simple the better.  As you can see from the photo, I drew Christmas trees, baubles and a star on mine - all simple designs. Paint the shape carefully with the glue using the paint brush, making sure to get right to the edges and keeping the outline even.  Sprinkle with the glitter of your choice gently tapping off any excess and leave to dry.  For more precise shapes use a template such as a coin for the bauble outline or you may prefer the more natural look of freehand.  I think they're cute and will look great on this year's Christmas presents!

Cute Girlie Bags

When the weather is fine (which isn't often in Ireland) I always get a bit lazy with my furniture revamping and craft work and start spending my spare time in the garden usually still painting but instead of house furniture it's garden benches and the shed (which I won't bore you by talking about).  However, I started to feel guilty about not posting much on the blog recently and decided to make some of these cute girlie felt bags again which I've been meaning to do since Easter but just didn't get round to.

As you can see, I'm still working on the pink one with the heart - the handles have yet to be attached (4th photo).  These are giving me the inspiration to make some grown up versions.....perhaps a vintage look?  Keep watching to the adult version in the near future.

Découpaged & Painted Trinket Box

I found these little wooden trinket boxes in a local craft store and thought they'd be great for a couple of quick découpage projects.  I used some owl paper napkins that I had been given recently as a gift and I mixed up some acrylics to make the pink colour that I used to paint it with.  On the inside I used acrylics 'linen' with 'gold' around the edges.  The gold was new at the time and I was itching to give it a go, its a great colour for all kinds of projects as it's really 'goldy' - it actually looks like real melted down gold.

I painted the box pink first (two coats) - the great thing about acrylics is they dry really quickly so while the paint was drying I cut out the owls and got my glue ready.  As you can see in the photos I glued the owls over the opening and when dry I used a craft knife to cut along the edge to separate the top and the bottom of the box.  After the inside was painted I couldn't resist painting some gold edging around each owl!!!  A few coats of sealant afterwards and it was finished.

Easter 2014

Well that's it for this year's Easter craft creations, which I'm happy to say were all a success.  I hope you all enjoyed looking and that my tutorial on how to decorate your own Easter eggs was useful.

Easter Bags & Buckets

I love this time of year when the evenings are a little brighter, Spring flowers are displaying an array of colour and you can hear the birds singing in the morning.  It's also the time when every boy and girl is waiting with excitement the arrival of the Easter Bunny and what better way to collect all those lovely eggs than in a cute little bag, basket or bucket.

I made the bags from felt and ribbon, they are hand stitched (because I couldn't get my sewing machine out of the cupboard without removing a tonne of other stuff first) and they are just the right size for collecting a few small eggs.  I always feel that boys are hard done by a times like this, everything seems to be targeted at girls and for that reason, I made the Easter buckets pictured below.
